MUSEU AFRO BRASIL
Museum dedicated to black culture, featuring paintings, photographs, prints, sculptures and all kinds of documents
Since 2004, the aim of this museum has been to present Afro-Brazilian culture as a component of national identity. From the African cultural origins of an entire continent to the present day, via the era of slavery, working-class times, carnival, capoeira and samba... And above all the culture of candomblé, the meanings and representations of orixás, the celebration of religious worship. Paintings, photographs, engravings, sculptures and all kinds of documents. Many photos by Pierre Verger (1902-1996). Worth seeing.
