CONVENTO E IGREJA SÃO FRANCISCO
Neo-colonial convent, now a law faculty, with a wattle-and-daub church adorned with paintings
The convent of São Francisco was inaugurated in 1647, during the colonial era, by the Franciscan order. In the 19th century, it was converted into a law faculty, and was unfortunately demolished in 1933 (like many of the city's buildings) to make way for a neo-colonial-style convent. Its church, the São Francisco church, was built in cob in 1647. It took on its current appearance in the 18th century. The sober interior is adorned with paintings depicting the life of Saint Francis.
