Izakaya is the Japanese equivalent of a tapas bar, immersing you in the traditional atmosphere of the land of the rising sun. Come here for sake, shochu (an alcohol made from various cereals) or beer. To accompany your drink, don't ask for sushi or sashimi, as you'll be disappointed. At the counter or at the table, ask the waiters for advice and take the opportunity to sample other lesser-known Japanese specialties. Prices are a little high, but you're entering a reputable establishment.
