SERRA DO PILOTO
A famous horse watering place steeped in history, now considered a paradise for nature lovers
This forest is home to Dom Pedro II's famous "watering hole of the horse", a waterfall where slaves were allowed to bathe. A number of historic architectural structures and ruins can also be seen. An important part of the country's economic history, the serra surrounds the old imperial road used by slaves and fazenda coffee growers. This natural area has been relatively unchanged by man over the centuries. Today, it is a paradise for nature walks.
