Berliners celebrate the New Year in their neighbourhood. On every street corner: fireworks and firecracker competitions.

With giant concerts, fireworks and entertainment, the official New Year's Eve party takes place at the Brandenburg Gate. But most Berliners celebrate New Year's Eve in their own neighbourhood. Every street corner is filled with a veritable arsenal of fireworks and firecrackers. Contrary to what is allowed in France, everyone here can throw their own fireworks from their balcony or from the pavement. The atmosphere is electrifying but it is better to be careful! The next day, the streets are littered with rubbish.
