In recent years, the Komische Oper has been drawing on the repertoire of the 1920s to reveal the nuggets of the Weimar Republic.
The modern facade of the Komische Oper conceals a superb, elegant and richly decorated neo-Baroque hall. From 2012 to 2022, German-Australian director Barrie Kosky will be in charge of the house, and his productions, both operas and operettas, have been a resounding success. Under his direction, the house has won several awards, including Opera of the Year and the International Opera Award. Since 2022, management has been in the hands of Philip Bröking and Susanne Moser. Barrie Kosky continues as artistic advisor.
