PONT DES NIBELUNGEN
Two 744-meter-long bridges opened in 1953, linking the towns of Worms, Lampertheim and Bürstadt.
The Nibelungen Bridge is not one, but two bridges! It connects the city of Worms (Rhineland-Palatinate) with those of Lampertheim and Bürstadt (Hesse), and is 744 meters long. Inaugurated in 1953, it is actually much older. Let's go back to the Middle Ages! At that time, a ferry was used to cross both banks. It was not until a thousand years later, in 1855, that a floating bridge was installed. Then, in 1900, the first fixed bridge was built, before being destroyed during the Second World War. It was finally rebuilt in 1953. It is since 2008 that the bridge was doubled to meet the traffic flow. The bridge has been declared a historical monument and is also distinguished by its entrance tower, the Nibelungenturn, which you can see on the left bank of the Rhine.
