ADENAUER MEMORIAL
Monument erected in 1981 to honor a political figure who was the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic.
Konrad Adenauer, first Chancellor of the Federal Republic, was a leading political figure. The architect of the FRG and the choice of Bonn as its capital, he was also the embodiment of the Rhineland in the face of a more continental Germany. So it was only natural that Bonn decided to erect a monument in his honor. The sculpture, dating from 1981, was created by Hubert Pilgrim. Behind it, in his hair, are the cathedrals of Cologne (where he was mayor) and Toul (symbolizing the rediscovered Franco-German friendship).
