Within the Jewish Museum, an interesting underground archaeological zone takes you back to Roman Cologne. The Praetorium was the official residence of the imperial governor during the Roman Empire. In its day, it was the most imposing palace in the Rhineland region, hard to visualize today, but take time to imagine. An exhibition room displays relics dating back over two millennia, including bas-reliefs and ceremonial crockery. The remains of walls are impressive.
