The Volksgarten is one of the best places to spend a summer's day and have a barbecue. Its lively, heterogeneous style is unique to Cologne: students and children mingle with musicians and Frisbee players, and some practice their soccer skills. A children's playground, open-air breweries and restaurants make the area attractive for family outings. The Volksgarten covers around 14 ha. The remains of the Lünette and the former Fort Paul, part of a Prussian fortress, are well worth a visit.
