Opening time and information on BUCHENWALD MEMORIAL
Open Tuesday to Sunday and public holidays from April to October, from 10 to 6pm, from November to March from 10 to 4pm. Closed from December 24th to December 26th, on December 31st and on January 1st. Free admission. One can go to Buchenwald by the bus (Weimar-Buchenwald line) of the central train station of the slow trains or the place of the station. The camp is with a few kilometers north of the city. Follow the symbol of the memorial, a kind of pyramid.

Ich kann mir ehrlich gesagt nicht vorstellen, wie es Menschen geschafft haben, hier nur einen einzigen Tag zu überleben.
Neu war für mich, das diese ganzen Gräueltaten nach der Befreiung durch die Amerikaner 1945 gar nicht vorbei waren, sondern dass das Lager noch bis 1950 weiter "genutzt" wurde und das es so viele Menschen gegeben hat, die davon nichts mitbekommen haben wollen?!
Die Ausstellung ist sehr umfangreich und es gibt wirklich eine Menge zu lesen. Plant für den Aufenthalt auf dem gesamten Gelände auf jeden Fall 3-4Std. ein und wen es interessiert, der sollte auf jeden Fall die Aschegruben, den Steinbruch, den Falkenhof und die Führersiedlung besuchen.
Ist nicht weit zu laufen, doch leider sind nur noch die Grundmauern zusehen.
