Magdeburg Cathedral, dedicated to Saint Mauritius and Saint Catherine, has always been the symbol of the city. It is known throughout the country as the first Gothic cathedral in Germany. It was founded by Emperor Otto I in the 950s to illustrate power and announce the conquest of the East and become the seat of the Archdiocese of Magdeburg. In 1207, Archbishop Albrecht undertook to transform the cathedral into a first Gothic building, inspired by French Gothic style. The cathedral and cloister are endowed with architectural treasures: bas-reliefs, capitals, sculptures, pulpit, and especially the tomb of Emperor Otto I.

Cathédrale imposante, et riche à l'intérieur. Pas pour ses vitraux (inexistants) mais pour ses sculptures, et il ne faut surtout pas manquer le cloître, havre de paix. L'entrée est gratuite, il faut payer 2 € pour pouvoir photographier.

A deux pas de la cité verte de l'architecte Hundertwasser à ne pas manquer , et sur une immense esplanade pas très animé, cette cathédrale d'aspect massif avec ses hautes tours possède de magnifique éléments architecturaux. Le grandiose intérieur possède aussi des richesses qui nécessitent bien une visite
