East of Marathon, stop at Pukaskwa National Park of Canada (leave the Trans-Canada Highway 17 and take Highway 627).The park is midway between Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Mary. Its cove invites to swimming or canoeing. Different trails or circuits allow you to explore the interior of these wooded lands or go along the shores of Lake Superior.Confirmed kayakers may - not without warning against the dangers of currents - follow a route that leads them to the southern boundary of the park for 16 days. For hikers, a 70 km trail is signposted along the coast. Camping areas equipped with a mast (to suspend food and place it out of reach) are spread over all of these 1 880 km 2.Outside of this wild camping facility at Hattie Cove, a modern comfort campground will allow you to measure your nerve endurance against an animal as fearsome as the bear, the mosquito. In Pukaskwa Park (pronounced "Pokerflat-a-sà"), it is a harsh and wild nature waiting for kayakers or hikers. The spirit of adventure and independence will only blow to the most trained. Pukaskwa means "a wild shoreline on an inland sea".For more information, visit the Parks Canada site (www.pc.gc.ca/pukaskwa).
