Timmins is now a service centre. In the past, however, gold mining was the economic reason for its existence. A few deposits are still active, but over the course of a century, dozens have been mined. Timmins is also known for its local star, Shania Twain. A center was dedicated to her before it closed permanently in 2013 due to lack of return. It gathered personal items and stage costumes of the one who gave a new air to country music, in the 1990s. Finally, you should know that in the last few years, two microbreweries have opened their doors, Compass Brewing and Full Beard Brewing.
