Canada's capital owes its undeniable character to Prime Minister Sir Wilfrid Laurier's dream of making it the Washington of the North. Its historic buildings, including the neo-Gothic Parliament Buildings, and its many green spaces set it apart from other North American cities. The Rideau Canal, which winds its way through the heart of the city, is a popular place for residents and visitors to relax. In 2017, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation, the city redoubled its efforts to attract visitors. And it shows. Museums have been revamped, restaurants have flourished, hotels too, and the latest trendy neighbourhoods (Hintonburg, Wellington West...) have all the cultural and gastronomic attractions of the moment. Located on the border of Ontario and Quebec, this serene city offers the traveller the best of both cultures.
