The first lockstation on the Trent-Severn Waterway was built here in 1833. In 1876, the area was incorporated as a village and became known as the "Kawartha Hub". To this day, it is the place where people from neighbouring communities come to get services not available in their area. Bobcaygeon is also a popular tourist destination, with several campgrounds, lodges and lakeside cottages. Things to do: Bobcaygeon Bakery's butter tarts and Kawartha Coffee Co.'s coffees are a must, as is the historic Kawartha Settlers' Village.
