This fishing village with its colorful houses is the most important one on the peninsula. It is a very active port, which was used by European fishing fleets (Spanish, Portuguese, French and English) throughout the 16th century, until it became definitively English around 1600. In the 18th century, the French tried to seize it several times but without success. Don't miss a walk to the Cape Bonavista Lighthouse, a provincial historic site, and a visit to the Ryan Premises National Historic Site of Canada, which commemorates the beginning of Canada's east coast fisheries.
