Village of pre-Hispanic origin, Socaire also benefited from the proximity of the road to Antofagasta and some gold mines. It is a very small village where only 285 inhabitants live, under the protection of a charming little church, whose door is made of cactus wood. The main activity is agriculture, with the production of potatoes and rice. The livestock is devoted to sheep and goats. In addition, a large part of the active male population works in the mining companies of the Atacama Salar. The proximity of the Meñique, Miscanti and Legia lagoons seems to favour its tourist development.
