MUSEUM OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL HISTORY
This government-run archaeological museum (misunderstood) is housed in the former Franciscan convent adjacent to the Church of St Francis of Assisi. It has existed since 1964 and presents objects, some of which predate the Portuguese occupation. On the ground floor, on the right after the entrance, a planisphere painted on the wall traces the roads of the first Portuguese explorers. A little further on, do not miss the pleasant cloister leaning against the church. To the left of the entrance, the gallery exhibits pieces of Hindu art, including a beautiful representation of Vishnu and ten of his avatars. Upstairs, a gallery of portraits of the Portuguese viceroys stationed in Goa will tell you more about the period of Portuguese colonization. The museum also has a collection of liturgical art and weapons such as rifles and daggers from the Portuguese period.
