Petit Futé's opinion on DISKIT GOMPA
The old monastery of Diskit was founded in the th century by Changzem Tserab Zangpo. It belongs to the Gelugpa order (yellow cups). You have to climb through a maze of small lanes to reach the shakyamuni. In the sacred room are fascinating statues. The monks will gladly offer you tea, this is the opportunity to discuss with them. From here the panorama on the valley is extraordinary. The new monastery is located at the foot of the hill.
You will not be able to miss the huge 32-metre colorée statue of the Buddha Maitreya, it dominates the valley and is visible miles to the round. It was built in 2006 with three objectives: protect the village of Diskit, avoid a future war with Pakistan, and promote world peace.
