KEDARNATH TEMPLE
Very compact temple with walls decorated with scenes evoking the Mahabharata epic, set in mountainous surroundings
Built in the 13th century, it houses one of the 12 jyotirlingas of the country. Very compact, it gives an impression of great robustness and is remarkably integrated into this mountainous environment. The walls are decorated with scenes evoking the epic of the Mahabharata. Hindus come here to worship a conical stone protuberance. It represents the bump that Shiva left when he dived underground to escape the demons. You may be offered to participate in a puja (prayer). But a word of advice: before accepting, make sure it's free.
