RAM BAGH OR "GARDEN OF REST"
Garden located on the east bank of the Yamuna, offering a beautiful panorama of the back of the Taj Mahal, a good spot for photos
This very first Mughal-style garden in India is a faithful replica of Emperor Babur's favorite garden in Kabul. The body of the founder of the Mughal Empire, Babur, was temporarily buried here in 1530 before moving to his eternal home in the Afghan capital. Located on the eastern bank of the Yamuna, it offers a beautiful panorama on the back of the Taj Mahal. Its terraced architecture will perhaps please the landscape lovers, but the visit is nevertheless disappointing for the price of the entrance ticket. One crosses there lovers, gangs of young people and some tourists come to admire the sun setting on the river. But the place is especially the kingdom of the monkeys! So be very careful with yourself and your belongings because the beasts can be aggressive. Many cases of harassment have been reported and the entrance of the park is now guarded by the police. That being said, they are mostly there to monitor the contents of your bag (no lighters, no matches) rather than to look after the welfare of visitors. The gardens are within the security and anti-pollution perimeter established around the Taj Mahal. You will have to leave your car at the parking lot, which is 500 meters from the entrance of the park. There is an electric shuttle bus for the disabled and the lazy. On a clear day, the Ram Bagh is a good place to take pictures of the Taj Mahal as the light softens.
