An institute that brings together the material traces of France's colonial past, with a section dedicated to Governor Joseph François Dupleix.
In this beautiful eighteenth century building, former center of power of the governors of Chandernagor, are gathered the material traces of the colonial past of France, correspondence, weapons of the time, maps, furniture, paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and even a copy of the first French newspaper published in Chandernagor, Le Petit Bengali. A whole section is dedicated to Joseph François Dupleix who was governor of the city during its golden age (from 1731 to 1741). The bookstore houses 18,000 books on history and literature, many of them in French.
