A square with several names and a statue of Saint George designed by sculptor Zurab Tsereteli.
In Georgian "Tavisouplebis Moedani". City hall: " Meria ". Just like on Roustaveli Avenue, we are in the heart of Tbilisi. Developed in the 19th century, this square took several successive names: under Tsarist Russia, it was called Yerevan Square, then Lenin in Soviet times, and finally Freedom Square when Georgia gained independence in 1991. The town hall ("Méria") is a superb building, built in 1882. The statue of Saint George, designed by the sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, accused of being in the pay of the Russian power, is disputed.
