DECEMBRIST MUSEUM
The region of Tchita was also a land of exile for the Decembrists who had been removed from St. Petersburg by the Tsar. In Tchita, this museum is installed in an old church, the church of the Archangel Michael. It gives a good idea of what this movement was and the life of the exiles in the region. Many paintings represent the nobility of St. Petersburg gathered around this movement and depict the intervention of tsarist troops to put an end to the Decembrist uprising. The museum also contains clothing and objects from the period.
