LÉRÉ AND TRÉNÉ LAKES
These two charming lakes full of silures, hippos and… of manatees! It seems that you can see them preferentially in the evening, with moonlight. Sometimes the Gôn is suddenly caught by envie envy, and his hunters start capturing one; the privilege of eating this animal belongs only to the Gôn.
ILOD monitor fishing zones and fight to preserve the plundering of the fishery resources of the two lakes. Fishing is practised by the Moundang living near these rivers, and mainly by the Gifted and Toeuré clans "Water engineering clan" (a sub-division of the great Moundang family), they are the ones holding the secrets of fishing in the moundang country. Small and rocky, the hills around the lakes provide the opportunity for hiking with magnificent views. The lakes are also one of the few shelters of the manatee, and you can take a walk in canoes and enjoy traditional fishing techniques.
The villagers will make you discover their culture centuries ago: visit of Gôn (or Gong) palace of The; traditional festivals such as fing-mundang (national holiday moundang in November) or fing-luo («fête festival» in February), or crafts in the village of Berliang (8 km north of The) where women, organized in groups, produce high quality pottery.
