Far from everything.Population: 600.These two small islands are almost one; Located 385 km south-east of Nassau, they are separated by a narrow channel, the Going Through. These are the southernmost islands of the archipelago. The climate is drier.The first settlers settled there in the late th century. Surrounded by reefs, they are an excellent diving centre.Acklins, rather rocky, covers 300 km 2. It is a haven of peace composed of tiny villages and hidden handles. The island is home to 450 people, concentrated at Spring Point, who live mainly in fishing. The airfield is located near Spring Point. In the south of the village, the remains of what appears to have been the main Lucayan settlement in the Bahamas are found. The site is only partially searched and has not yet delivered all its secrets. The lighthouse of Castle Island, built in 1867, stands at the southern tip of the island. Crooked is smaller with 235 km 2. It is a fishing paradise with flats and deep coves. It has many coral reefs and caves populated with bats. Colonel Hill, Crooked's capital, concentrates most of the activity. At the top of the hill is the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste. Crooked's airfield is nearby.Bird Rock Lighthouse is a lighthouse built in 1876 with the ruins of a nearby English fort, Gun Bluff. The island also has beautiful beaches that are far from overcrowded. Fishing, diving, walking to visit the caves of Pirate's Bluff, enjoy the wonderful sunsets, and do nothing, "idleness", this is the program of a stay to Crooked.Long Cay is a catchy language south of Crooked. Formerly known as Fortune Island, it houses a flamingos colony at the south point. Albert Town, once a stopover on the road to England, is a ghost village that houses more than souls. There are more wild goats than people. Only the Anglican Church remains on its feet against the winds and tides.
