The people of this village are very proud of the fact that one of the Bahamas' only true stars, Sir Sidney Poitier, was born here. Walking through the village, one can easily imagine how complex and full of pitfalls the local boy's journey to the top must have been. In his autobiography, the actor recounts his childhood in Arthur's Town and his journey to Hollywood.The island has no public transportation. The best way to get around is to rent a car, hire a guide, or take a cab. It costs US$ 30 to Orange Creek from the airport.
