Birkat al-Mawz is divided into two sections: the modern part and its recent dwellings, and the old, partly abandoned hamlet. The fortified hamlet is built in staircases on the hillside. Some of its ochre mud houses have been restored and boast beautiful carved wooden doors. A falaj crosses the village and feeds the surrounding palm groves. It is not just any falaj, but one of the four Omani Aflaj classified by Unesco. At the exit of the new village is the Bait al-Radidah castle. Built in the 17th century, it has been renovated and stands in front of the mountains surrounding the mouth of the Wadi Muaydin
