A region rich in contrasts

Setúbal is located about 40 km from Lisbon and has a population of about 120,000. Although the Phoenician culture was the first to settle in the territory, it was thanks to the Roman city of Cetóbriga, between the 1st and 4th centuries, that Setúbal became an important urban centre, mainly due to the fish salting industry

The poet Bocage and the lyric singer Luísa Todi are the main characters of its cultural history, the birthplace of many other personalities, starting with the coach José Mourinho, "The Special One".

From museums to diverse cultural activity, from urban art to cultural spaces, there are countless arguments that make the city a tourist reference

Setúbal is located in the centre of a landscape rich in contrasts, with the Arrábida mountain to the west, the Sado estuary nature reserve to the east and a beautiful bay to the south.

Warm and fine sandy beaches, such as Figueirinha, the largest and best known, or those of Galapos and Galapinhos, which in 2017 will be distinguished as the most beautiful in Europe. The beach of Portinho da Arrábida is also a reference.

Fresh fish and seafood are the hallmarks of Setúbal. From red mullet to sardines, fried cuttlefish, oysters, horse mackerel, grouperel, sea bass, octopus, spider crab and knives, the diversity of flavours is well represented on restaurant counters and market shelves, especially in Livramento, which has repeatedly been recognized as one of the best in the world.

As for the wines, the production of the region allows each year to have products of international renown. The generous wine "Moscatel" (muscatel) is the one that stands out in this wide range
