HEIN EEK PIET
Piet Hein Eek houses a lot of accessories, decorative items and fun gadgets, not only from his workshops
Piet Hein Eek is one of the gods of contemporary design, a student of the prestigious Design Academy in Eindhoven. The land he has gradually taken over is due to the departure of the Philips factories. It is an industrial wasteland. Here, he opened a multiform complex with workshops, store, manufacturing places, gallery and even a restaurant. This RK complex, once the ceramic workshop of Philips, was once the place where parts for radios and televisions were created. It is in the heart of Strijp-R, a very green residential area that mixes with industrial complexes. The multi-level store is an incredible experience where you walk through the great NL design hits of the last few years. You get to see some great design ideas. You can also go to the brewery on the second floor which also hosts a very interesting gallery space, you can walk around freely and then sip a coffee and then continue to the deco store. Piet Hein Eek specializes in creating furniture from reclaimed wood, used as new marquetry. It is impressive to watch his teams at work from thefirst floor. On the first floor you will find lots of accessories, decorative items and fun gadgets, not only from his workshops. A great address for many reasons... It is probably the most emblematic address in the city and there are many. Note that the place now also includes a very nice hotel.
