The statue of d'Artagnan, who died in Maastricht on June 25, 1673, by a musket ball to the throat while fighting on a day of rest, stands in a beautiful park. The statue, designed by Alexander Taratynov, bears the words written by Louis XIV to the Queen on learning of his death: "Madame, I have just lost D'Artagnan, in whom I had the greatest confidence". Events are often organized on the anniversary of a death.
