An iconic arch bridge in Maastricht, its oldest representation dates back to 1570, on a city map.
This bridge is an icon of the city. It is a bridge with arches whose construction dates back to the 13th century, between 1280 and 1298. It owes its name to Saint Servais, the bishop of the city. It only got this name in 1932, before it was just "the bridge". Its oldest representation dates back to 1570, on a city map. Very deteriorated, it was restored between 1683 and 1716; some parts were completely rebuilt using only old stones. In the past, every citizen, soldier and member of the clergy had to give money by will for its maintenance.
