Medieval Romanesque basilica with crypts with elaborate sculptures and a bell on the south tower in Maastricht
This medieval and Romanesque gem features a transept and central core dating from around 1000 AD. This historic monument boasts 11th- and 12th-century crypts, housing the tombs of St. Servais, the first bishop of the Netherlands, and Charles of Lorraine. The building was extended in the 14th and 15th centuries, enriching its already impressive architecture. Highlights include portals adorned with finely crafted sculptures. The bell in the south tower, nicknamed Grameer, weighs almost 7 tons.

A l'intérieur, c'est le baroque qui prédomine. Le reliquaire de saint Servatius est à voir. Le cloître attenant à la basilique est un coin paisible.
Nous avons traversé la salle du trésor et nous nous sommes arrêtés pour regarder les anciennes reliques. Ma mère a trouvé la crypte particulièrement impressionnante. Tout n'était pas parfaitement entretenu, mais cela rend les choses plus réelles. Nous sommes restés silencieux lorsque nous sommes retournés à l'extérieur. C'est un endroit charmant où l'on peut s'arrêter un moment :)
