Medieval Romanesque basilica with crypts with elaborate sculptures and a bell on the south tower in Maastricht
Romanesque medieval basilica with a transept whose central core dates from around the year 1000. The crypts (from the 11th and 12th centuries) contain the tombs of Saint Servais, the first bishop of the Netherlands, and of Charles of Lorraine. Additions were made to the building in the 14th and 15th centuries. Admire the portals with their elaborate sculptures. The bell in the south tower, nicknamed Grameer (grandmother) weighs almost 7 tons. In the church there is a statue of Charlemagne. The treasury and the collection of religious art are accessible for an additional fee

Mooie historische plek, indrukwekkend groot, gaaf om het orgel even gehoord te hebben, vriendelijke kassamedewerker bij de ingang.
