Museum of Utrecht tracing the history of Christianity in Holland and presenting the largest collection of medieval art in the country.
Founded in 1978, this museum, housed in the former Carmelite convent, traces the history of Christianity in Holland and presents the largest collection of medieval art in the country. On display are a large number of paintings, manuscripts and various ecclesiastical ornaments, some of which date back to the 9th century. The museum displays works by Rembrandt, Hals, Jan van Scorel, Geertgen tot Sint Jans (Gerard of St. John), and the magnificent painting The Virgin and Child by Van Cleve. Temporary exhibitions are also organized in the museum.
