De Koepel is a project still in the final stages of completion, but definitely worth a visit during your stay in Haarlem. It's a magnificent prison, built between 1899 and 1901 by W.C. Metzelaar. It once contained 240 cells. It now houses a cinema, businesses, a hotel, restaurants and stores. Koepel is a truly unique, award-winning building, bright and inspiring. It is expected to welcome 800,000 visitors a year, making it a real success. An instant classic.
