De Bijenkorf (the Beehive) is the most famous department store in the Netherlands. Historically close to the people and rather straightforward in its approach, De Bijenkorf turned to luxury and top brands a few years ago. This means that it has nothing to be ashamed of when compared with similar international brands. Located on Dam Square, de Bijenkorf's combination of international brands with more local or national brands is a feast for the eyes, as are the Saint-Nicolas and Christmas departments. There are several restaurants on site.
