Battle camp where 4,000 Zulus attacked the Swedish mission at Oscarberg.
A few hours after their victory at Isandlwana, on 22 January, 4,000 Zulus attacked the Swedish mission at Oscarberg, where a hundred British soldiers, hidden behind sacks of flour and boxes of biscuits, managed to repel the attackers, causing more than 400 casualties in their ranks. Seventeen British soldiers were killed. Eleven Victoria Crosses were awarded that day. See Cy Endfield's film, Zulu, about this bloody battle.
