This may be one of the most beautiful rural areas in South Africa… one of the most ignored. Marico district, occupied by the Voortrekkers in 1845, extends from the village of Groot-Marico to the east, to Zeerust, to the west, and to the north to the Botswana border. It is a white country, in the South African sense of the word, that is, a land of pioneers. Farmers raise cattle and grow tobacco in Virginia, maize and citrus fruits. Between Groot-Marico and Zeerust, the road allows to discover an astonishing nature of beauty, astonishing cocktail of bush bush, cactées, palm and corn (Mielies). Thus, a tropical microclimate was created around the Marico River at the latitude of the north of Kgalagadi park.
