The Grotte de la Pierre de Volvic invites you to discover a hollowed-out gallery, with a subterranean trail featuring light effects.
Since 2022, part of the scenography has been renewed, with new visual and technical effects. The installation of some fifteen additional spotlights provides more light, while smoke projectors make the discovery experience more immersive. And so, since 2024, the Grotto has been offering us a two-faceted experience: alternating throughout the year between the historical tour and the Grotto of Lights. The original historical tour lasts 1h15 and plunges you right into the heart of the gallery dug into a lava flow from the puy de la Nugère, mined for Volvic stone since the 13th century. Visitors follow a self-guided tour through five stages featuring videos, animated objects, lighting effects and sound narration, allowing them to discover the world of quarry workers at the beginning of the 20th century. The Grotte des Lumières (Cave of Lights) is a moving, narrative show that introduces visitors to an enchanted world, connecting the cave to the natural elements. Young and old alike follow the adventures of a little otter named Volvis, who wants to bring the cave back to life. In a plant and aquatic atmosphere, spectators are transported into a world filled with magic and legends. For the festive season, the old quarry is transformed into Santa's workshop, with stunning sets, visual and sound effects, and a CGI film.
