The cave where the first australopithecus was discovered in 1947, a national monument and Unesco World Heritage Site.
You can't go any further than Peppercorn Farm, as the site is both a Unesco World Heritage Site and a national monument. It was here that the first Australopithecus was discovered in 1947. In 1854, the Tlou, a Ndebele tribe, took refuge here after the Moorddrif massacre. Paul Kruger, a simple soldier, removed the body of a district chief. A group of whites discovered a horrible mass grave of putrefied bodies in the cave. Few of the 1,500 natives who had taken refuge in Makapansgat had survived hunger and thirst.
