45 km northwest of Békéscsaba by road 44, Szarvas was built in the th century, according to the checkerboard plan of enlightened thinker Samuel Tessedik. Like its neighbour Békéscsaba, the city was populated by a strong Slovak community after the departure of the Turks in 1722. The main Intérêt interest is its beautiful arboretum (and its thermal baths, to a lesser extent).
