Located just 30 km east of Budapest on the M3 freeway, and well connected by public transport from the Hungarian capital, the small town of Gödöllő is best known for its royal castle, the former baroque palace of the Grassalkovichs, reopened to the public in 1998. It was one of the favorite homes of Elisabeth, Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, the famous Sissi. Easily accessible from Budapest, one can easily reserve half a day for it. The castle and its garden are well worth it. The city center is also pleasant to walk around. On sunny days, activities and concerts brighten up the castle grounds
