Mohács Carnival is one of the country's most famous traditional events. Known as Busójárás, it takes place every February to symbolically chase away winter and welcome spring. Participants wear folk costumes, carved wooden masks and sheepskins, marching through the streets to the sound of drums and bells. This festival of Slavic origin attracts thousands of visitors every year. The carnival combines folklore, music, crafts and gastronomy, and pays tribute to the age-old traditions of the šokac people.
