Baroque castle in a former Benedictine abbey, now a museum and hotel in Pécsvárad.
Pécsvárad Castle, founded in 1015 by King Stephen I as a Benedictine abbey, is one of Hungary's oldest monuments. Transformed into a Baroque castle after the expulsion of the Turks, it now houses a museum retracing its rich religious and military past. The site also houses a hotel with comfortable rooms. An on-site restaurant serves traditional Hungarian dishes in a warm, authentic historic setting.
