DALI'S DOORS
The Chinese gateway, with its double curved roof, offers a beautiful view of the main street and its medieval shops
The Dali Gates, reconstructed remains of the ancient walled city, still mark the symbolic entrance to the old town. Oriented to the four cardinal points, they once framed the royal city, the heart of the ancient kingdoms of Nanzhao and Dali. Of these, the East Gate (Erhai Gate) and South Gate are the most imposing, topped by elegant turrets and decorated with glazed tiles. From their second floor, they offer spectacular views of the mountains or the lake, depending on the direction.
