130 km north of Perth on Indian Ocean Drive, Lancelin has declared itself Australia's sandboarding capital. Traditional surfing is also practiced here, at Back Beach. Lancelin has only 600 permanent inhabitants and, apart from tourism, lives mainly from fishing, mainly lobster for export. It's a pleasant stopover on the way to the Pinnacles, or the far north to Shark Bay. Don't be surprised to see cars on the beach - it's totally normal. Don't hesitate to spend the night if you want to perfect your dune run! Yanchep, about halfway between Perth and Lancelin, is also a good stopover.
