A neighborhood rich in history and architecture in Edessa.
A former Christian stronghold under Turkish occupation, the Varosi district was almost entirely destroyed during the Second World War by the Germans because it was home to a large number of resistance fighters. There are very good examples of architecture: the base of the houses is often made of stone and the façades are only pierced by a few windows. Here are the addresses of some typical houses: 22 and 24, rue Makedonomahon, and 1, rue Athanasiou Frandou. There is also a small folk art museum at 26 Makedonomahon Street.
