Built at the foot of Mount Vermio, on the edge of the cliff, Edessa is a pleasant town, embellished by parks, gardens and beautiful waterfalls from which you can enjoy an excellent view of the artificial lake and the valley. 2 km from Edessa is the ancient city and its ruins. The site includes the remains of three early Christian basilicas, but it can only be visited in summer. The reputation of Edessa, long considered the capital of Macedonia, has suffered greatly since the discovery in 1977 of the fabulous tombs in the nearby village of Vergina. Getting there. Edessa is accessible by bus (www.ktelmacedonia.gr) and by train (trainose.gr).
